A Night of Gratitude and Commitment: “ODU UK’s 21st Anniversary Celebration”

Saturday, the 30th of November 2024 was a night to remember. The Odogbolu Descendants Union (ODU) in the UK came together in London to commemorate a significant milestone: the 21st anniversary of their association. This momentous occasion was not just a celebration of years gone by but a heartfelt gathering that united members, families, friends, and distinguished guests in a shared commitment to uplift the Odogbolu community in Ogun State, Nigeria.

The evening was enriched by the presence of notable figures, including Barrister ‘Kayode Okenla, an esteemed lawyer known for his advocacy and dedication to community service. Barrister Ogunbamuren also graced the event, recognized for his steadfast support over the years as the Grand Patron of ODU UK. His contributions have been pivotal in guiding the association towards its mission.

In her welcome address, Mrs. Itunu Omotayo, the association president, highlighted the impactful projects ODU UK has undertaken for the betterment of Odogbolu. She expressed sincere gratitude to all attendees for their unwavering support and emphasized that this celebration is a renewed call to action for everyone present to contribute to future initiatives aimed at fostering growth and development in Odogbolu.

“Tonight is not just about celebration; it’s a reminder of our commitment to serve and uplift our community,” she stated passionately. The president called upon all members and guests to rally behind new projects slated for the upcoming year, reinforcing that together they can continue making a meaningful impact.

The awards ceremony was a highlight of the evening, recognizing outstanding contributions from dedicated members of ODU UK. Barrister ‘Sola Ogundemuren received an award for his steadfast support as Grand Patron, while Mrs. Omolara Onasanya was honoured for her dedication in making celebration cakes every year for ODU UK’s annual events. Pa. Muyiwa Odubanjo was also recognized for his selfless service as a founding member of the association. Their contributions exemplify the spirit of service that ODU UK embodies.

Adding to the evening’s significance was a generous donation from the chairman, Barrister Okenla who pledged a remarkable seven-figure amount—1 million Naira—to support upcoming projects and promised to triple this contribution over the next few years. He took a moment to delve into Odogbolu’s rich history, recounting tales of its past and emphasizing the importance of community support in ensuring its continued growth and development.

The chairman encouraged all present to give their utmost support to ODU UK and donate generously so that the association can continue its vital work in supporting the Odogbolu community.

The event featured exciting highlights such as raffle draws and an American auction, all aimed at raising funds for new projects in the coming year. Guests were treated to a sumptuous dinner featuring an array of Nigerian and continental dishes that delighted palates and brought everyone together in celebration.

The evening’s attire added a touch of elegance and cultural pride to the occasion. Attendees donned beautiful, sweet green Aso-Oke fabric in complete Agbada regalia for men, complemented by traditional Iyun beads. Women wore matching lovely green Iro and Buba lace materials, with added touch of the green Aso-Oke adorned by the men as Gele and Ipele. They were all looking delectable and stunning, creating an awesome visual representation of heritage and unity.

As guests mingled and shared stories throughout the night, it became clear that this 21st anniversary was not merely about celebrating past achievements but also about reaffirming ODU UK’s mission: to serve and support the Odogbolu community in thriving amidst challenges.

In conclusion, the night’s event’was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through unity and dedication. As ODU UK embarks on new projects in 2025, it stands poised to continue its legacy of service, ensuring that Odogbolu remains a beacon of hope and progress for generations to come. The journey is far from over; together, as one community, ODU UK will continue striving for excellence in serving their homeland while fostering connections among its members across borders.

The event was anchored by Mrs Yetunde Osonaike, wife of the immediate past president of the association, supported by Mr Leke Taiwo and Franklyn Frantos Sr., Co-Founder of Feferity Media Group UK.
